Burns Night: (trad. Scotts.)A celebration of the life and poetry of Rabbie Burns, 18th Century Scottish poet, often held on the anniversary of his birth, January 25th and involving a burns supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.
As the clocks strike one on the afternoon of Saturday 24th January Meadowbank Sports Centre will play host to a furious death match between Auld Reekie Roller Girls Team Green, the uncivilised “HIGHLAND HEATHENS” and their cold, dark hearted sisters in Team Black, “CELTIC CHAOS”. Both teams will be joined by mega guest skaters from the frankly awe-inspiring London Roller Girls to rock the track in the first UK Roller Derby event of 2009, Auld Reekie Roller Girl’s first home, open, intra-league bout.....FISHNET BURNS NIGHT.
Doors open at one o’clock sharp and skaters will take to the track at two pee emm to bout for an hour, three hard and fast periods of twenty minutes. Between times there will be merchandise stands, light refreshments, bout programmes and announcements to keep your derby appetite wet and when night falls you can count on free entry to our Scots-tastic, derby-o-rama, sweaty, stinking, glamorous and sophisticated after-party at the infamous Studio 24 on Carlton Road.

Anyhoo, he is playing/gigging/performing whatever the hell you'd term it at the cannonsgate on the royal mile every saturday and sunday at 2.30.
I will be coming through too see him this weekend on the 18th! SO if any one would like to join me and paul that would be great.
Oh yeah ITS FREE!!!
So I get a teeny weeny classroom all to myself which might not be that suitable to teach in but should serve me well as a base in which I can hide and study etc. I thought all my studying would be over now but apparently not! This year I have to do yet another essay/research paper and a presentation to the big high head ones in falkirk council. woop :/
But I am quite excited I get to teach the kids what I like so I've got loads of work to do over the summer any ideas welcome or if you can think back to how you where taught art and design and would like to share that with me so I can improve my teaching and steal some ideas.
The classroom that I might be getting is full of stuff that may of may not be useful so I'm going to go in over the summer holiday's and clear it out so that I can have a good look around and a clear out :)
Anyway the point of this post was not to tell everyone about my classroom but to say that I will be in edinburgh visiting the lovely sarah and I would imagine we will be out in town for a few drinks if people would like to join us you can no doubt guess where we will end up!

And today I sat my driving test and passed!!! Woop woop, now I need to save all these hard earned pennies that I'll be getting soon to spend on a new car!! Well new to me old to everyone else!!

Do not become a teacher unless you are prepared to loose contact with alot of friends in a year, put every relationship you have under stress, fall asleep mid sentence, loose the rag with people half your height, make friends and enemies everywhere you go and have to read some many policy documents that the words all merge into one and you forget how to speak, read and write English!!
Well I hope I have done enough work to make it through this year without too many bruises and with the ability to get a job at the end of it. Which thankfully I don't need to get too worked up about until the end of this year as I get one years placement paid this time :) Then its off to Aberdeen for me in search of work (it seems to be the only place looking for Art teachers at the moment).
Once again I don't feel ready to leave Uni. I was scared of leaving art school and now the end of this year approaches and this time I really do have to leave education and get a job (in education) studying must be my comfort blanket and a weird one at that because I'm not very studious.
I don't really have much else to add, accept the people I work with at the moment a bizarre to say the least and no matter what I say or do seem to have the most adverse reaction to my very presence. meh.
Secondly to all my pirating chums!!!!!! There will be an on land excursion to many pubs in edinburgh on the 7th of april for those wishing to sign the roster and join the crew we will meet at the monkey at 8ish and continue from there. This evening should serve well as a celebration for me completing my course work so come drink rum and celebrate with me!!!!!

So an update on Al life???? Hrmmmm.
I passed the first big part of my course (happy dancin') I have started a new school which is much better so I'm a little less stressed (but I hide it well) I have lots of essay's to write which I am sensibly putting off till the last minute!! And hrmmm I think that covers it for now.
Haven't done anything of any major importance, my sister is planning my wedding, my mother and grandmother in-law (to be) are planning my house and Paul's mum (with some help from Paul) seems to be planning my children, all without input from me!!! Not that I mind Gill planning the wedding, I will have a care free day and I won't be aware if anything goes wrong because I won't know how it was meant to go! Haha
I will be visiting edinburgh for the forthcoming long awaited buca run!! And I must say I'm excited I have already warned my new school that even after a mid-term break and an in-service day I may still be hungover and reeking when I return to work!!!
So all that worry and stress about going back has washed away :) I must say being a teacher is doing wonders for my sense superiority!! I walk along the corridors and hear "hello miss" Its fantastic!! Some of my students who didn't like art have done extra homework (not the geeky ones) and some people have asked for extra work at lunch times so I must be doing something right (not sure what)
So all in all its well in al's little land for now :)
Other than teaching related nonsense I don't have mush to add :( I will try to pop through to ed soon and get a chance to see everyone maybe next weekend if that suits people??? Well let me know!
XXX
So I was in edinburgh for a short visit and it reminded me of how mush I miss the place. It did however give me a chance to share my happy news which is that Paul and I are getting married!! :) (in 3 years)
Hopefully I will be in ed this weekend as it is my birthday week, I don't think we'll be doing a dress up affair, but I am open to suggestions!! So we could go for highway men or pirates or whatever!! Also feel free to come visit me in the metropolis that is Falkirk any time you like!!
Anyhoo not much else to report for now, Darren it was wonderful to see you again!! I miss you while your gone, but hopefully it won't be as long this time around, and I will bring Paul next time so you can see if he is a suitable match!! Hehehe.
Matt & suzie, was so nice to see you again, I'm sorry I had other places to go that night but hopefully we can exchange a drink or two soon!!
Obviously the lady sarah was an excellent host as always, and mark and matt it wouldn't have been the same without you!!!
Anyhoo hope all is well and I get another chance to meet up with most of you if not more of you soon!!!!!!

Well so far I have got my little self very confused with the whole religious awareness part of the course, which is optional, which I elected to take, which I'm now reconsidering!! My head seems to be filled with R.E. and nothing else and to top that off it is taught by a Priest!!! or a nun!!! I mean come on. He keeps saying we will cover "other world" religions, where are these other worlds??? Tell me and how does he know so much about these alien religions???? he has yet to even touch on anything other than Catholicism!!!!
Professional studies is going well apart from looking at my timetable the final assignment and my mini one and presentation report have all to be handed in on the same day!!! Its not til April but I'm getting started now!!! I'm going to be super keen this year (I hope)
The art part is apparently relaxed for the first term???? Well we had to churn out a unit of work that would take a higher student months to do and we got yup thats right a day and a half!!! Its done and if I do say so myself looks good but, the stress!!!
I will be through soon for Darren's visit but if some nice person could give me a beep with the arrangements and what not that would be nice!!!
Hope you are all doing well take care and I'll see you soon!!
XXX
Well that is the first week of uni over with and now into the second and so far so good!!!
I am actually quite enjoying it apart from the getting up at 6am!!!! to be in on time and not getting home until after 6pm!!!! That bit sucks a bit :(
The city of Glasgow is not as frightening as I thought it would be so thats good and everyone on the course so far seems to be quite nice (I hope they stay like that) Its quite an intense course though, in 3 weeks I'll be let loose in a school, in a classroom, on my own!!!!!! Mwahahahahaha
Well that bit is panicing me slightly but I think it is everyone elses nerves that are getting to me before my own.
The lectures are long and uncomfortable and the first few consisted of your representing Glasgow Uni so dress well and your all damn lucky to be here because no other uni anywhere could top us!!!!!
I though it was only art schools that thought of themselves as the best place anyone could ever hope to visit let alone study! But no, uni's do it too!
The only usefull thing I've been told so far is that it is a must to keep a journal of my thoughts throughout my teaching career and that one of the assignments will require evidence of this journal!! So be prepared for a wee stressed al venting all on lj!!!
But it does seem like a good idea to have a point of reference for myself. but I'm not sure how me reading back over "my gawn I was shit scared this week because I was teaching in some awful school but there was one pupil who was okay and only came to class drunk once" will help?! But hey its all reflective practice now so, meh.
Anyhoo sleepy time for me now.
take care

Well the aunty thing is going well but the rest hrmm not so well, I'm still at home, I'm still skint and well thats it really.
It is however 2 weeks til I start my training!!! I can't work out weather to be excited or terrified meh and I still don't know what school I'll be placed in so the transport thing is a worry as I can never see me passing my test let alone saving enough to buy a car!! Ah well public transport with my pupils :(
In other news it is my mums birthday soon!!! So I shall be bringing her for a visit and a drinkie or 2 as its a big one!!! Hahahahaha
Anyhoo take care and I shall hopefully see everyone soon!

Camping for me so am now covered in damn weee miggie (spelling?????) bites but hey thats what you get anyhoo beautiful view's (I will try to post pics) shame it raind and a stealth cow fell over gills tent hahahahhaa :)
So a gig on no sleep and lots of booze sound familiar to last year, but hey I did it and it was well worth it could have been better if I was downstairs but hey private booth right next to a bar space to move and ad excellent view with great company I can't complain too much.
Anyhoo back to work for me!!
Only 6 week and 3 days til I leave
which is 28 work days
which is 240 hrs
which is
na I'm time wasting now
XXXX
pip pip
hugs!!!!!!
:)
Anyhoo, amazing visuals (you would expect that from the creator of such comics as sandman lucifer ect) good music all round good "family show" however I wouldn't take little peeps to it as some of the sound effects could be a tad on the frightening side for a mini me????
Paul has managed to turn me into a full on geek (oh the shame) I went to a "tourny" and played did not win this time but was voted for as one of the best sportsmanship players, sortsmanship??? Its a table top war game!!!! For gawd sakes but meh keeps me entertained and hairy happy so thats all good :)
In other news not at lot, gawd it just gets worse through here, I all alone :( well not really I have my hairy man and the beast and the new baby to keep me entertained but its just not the sane as knowing I could walk up the road and go to the monkey and have a good drink in good company, I am planning on having a small gathering at my house which involves bbq food and beer and the likes but it is getting harder and harder to get to grips with the sunshine!!
Anyhoo I miss everyone and my life in edinburgh, but hopefully this will all change when I go back to uni! :) *grin* it makes me happy :)
